Ven Pongal

I learnt this perfect ven pongal recipe from my father in law. He is best in doing pongal. Every Saturday he makes this pongal as perumal prasadham. Try This!!


Raw rice-1 cup
Moong dal-1 cup(u can take 1/2 cup too)
Ginger- 1 inch
Pepper corns- few
Jeera- 1 tsp
Green chilli-1 chopped
Ghee-3 tbsp
Curry leaves-few
Cashew- few
Water-5 cups


1.Wash rice and dal. In that add 1/2 tbsp of ghee,salt,hing and water. Pressure cook for 3 whistle.
2.In a pan heat ghee add cashew,pepper,jeera,chopped ginger,green chilli and curry leaves.
3.Smash the pongal and add seasoned ghee along to it. Ur ven pongal is ready! Enjoy with Tiffin Sambar


1.While pressure cooking, Follow this method
   Add water in cooker,keep a heavy botttom vessel inside. Let the rice be in vessel inside. Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 3-5 whistle. For pongal use 1:5 water.
2. Grind coarsely your raw rice before doing pongal. Or else,you ca use broken rice. (Nookal in tamil)
    Broken rice makes your pongal tasty.
3.Adding green chilli is optional. crush the pepper corns and use,so that no option for throwing out :)
