Ingredients:
Moong dal-1/2 cup
Tamarind- small lemon size(soak in hot water)
Small Onion-10
Tomato-1 small
Sambar masala-1 tbsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Jaggery- small piece (as needed)
Coriander seed-1 tsp
Channa dal-1/2 tsp
Cumin seed-1/2 tsp
Coconut scraps-2 tbsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tspRed chilli- 3 no
Cilantro/Coriander leaves- few
Salt
Method:
1.In a pan add 1 tsp of oil and fry coriander seed,channa dal and 2 red chilli. Allow it to chill. Grind along with cumin seed and coconut and paste like masala.2.Pressure cook moong dal for 3-4 whistle.
3.In a same pan add oil and splutter some mustard seed, red chilli onion and tomato. Add turmeric powder and sambar powder and saute for a while.
4.Now add tamarind water , grounded masala,salt,jaggery and needed water.Allow it to boil for 5 min.
5.Garnish with coriander leaves.
Note:
1.Toor dal can be repaced instead for moong dal.2.For watery add little more water.Adjust adding jaggery for your taste.
3.Goes well with Pongal,Idly/Dosa.
